The first insurance company was
set up nearly half a century ago.
All the insurance companies are
privately-owned with the exception of the State Insurance
Corporation of Mauritius.
A wide range of services
are provided, of which:
- General and life insurance schemes
- Medical and Family Protection Schemes
- Mortgage loans for housing purposes
- Property development
- Personal and commercial loans against
mortgage of land and property
- Pension schemes
A number of insurance companies
are members of the Insurers' Association, which is a body
formed in 1973 with a view to group those undertaking insurance
transactions in Mauritius.
