The legal system is hybrid in
Mauritius, as it is based on both the British Common Law and
the French Code Napoléon, a legacy of our successive
colonisations. The judiciary is well organised and independent
from the legislative and executive, and is embodied in the
Supreme Court, the court of highest instance.
The country possesses a
number of lawyers, solicitors, and notaries. The presence
of these professionals is a sine qua non condition for the
good conduct of business.
