Alongside its fundamental role which is the defence of the
interests of its Members, the MCCI is poised to take up
the challenges arising from the twin movements of globalisation
and regionalisation. Not only is it fully aware of the present
transitional dimension of international business relations,
but it has already anticipated the implications and short-term
consequences of such evolutionary process. Its mission for
the years ahead will be threefold:
¨ keep the Mauritian business community
abreast of the numerous changes and developments on the
international scene as the new global set-up for industry
and trade takes shape;
¨ help Mauritian businesses to rise to the challenge
of meeting the full implications of such changes and to
the resulting challenges both at home and abroad;
¨ cooperate with Mauritius' official representatives
in achieving the most favourable interpretation and implementation
of the WTO rules and in securing the appropriate terms and
conditions for a fruitful new relationship with the European
Union, in the highest interests of the country.
Through its long-standing
experience and credibility in
Mauritius, its increased role
in the Eastern and Southern African
regions, the MCCI aims at the
further development of the range
and scope of its functions and
services, and in fully meeting
its objectives in years to come.
As a core private sector institution
on the Mauritian business scene
since 1850, it is determined
to pursue its mission in favour
of free enterprise, enhanced
standards of living and economic
democracy.
