Participation in International Economic
Relations
Mauritius has acquired a high reputation,
namely within the ACP group of countries, as a system offering
a model of structured dialogue between its public authorities
and its private sector. Indeed, the representatives of the
principal business institutions are fully involved in Mauritius
in international economic relations: not only do they participate
closely with Government officials in the outlining of the
country's strategies for negotiations, but they also attend
conferences and high-level meetings as full-fledged members
of its delegations.
Thus, representatives of the Chamber's Secretariat
have fully participated in WTO work and conferences, in
discussions in relation to the successor agreement to the
Lomé Convention (signed in 2000 as the Cotonou Convention)
and in negotiations on the implementation of the Trade Protocol
of the Southern
African Development Community
(SADC). They
are also closely involved in other regional initiatives
like the Indian Ocean Commission, the COMESA and the Indian
Ocean Rim.
