Membership of International Private Sector Organisations
The MCCI also contributes to the trade and
industrial development of Mauritius by extending its contacts
at international level, by launching and running, on its
own initiative, various projects and services, and by inducing
its members either to participate in their running or to
benefit from them.
The MCCI is a founder-member
of:
- the Federation of Indian Ocean Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FCCIOI)
- the
Association of SADC Chambers
of Commerce and Industry (ASCCI).
- the World Chambers Federation (WCF)
- the
Global Business Exchange (GBX)
network and
- is also a Member of the International Chamber of Commerce
2. Cooperation Agreements and Representation
The MCCI has cooperation agreements and links with private
sector organizations in several countries including India,
Australia, China, South Africa, France and Reunion Island.
Also, it is the body appointed by the ICC to distribute
its publications in Mauritius.
The MCCI collaborates closely with inter-governmental organisations
and specialised agencies of the UN system in the implementation
of projects and running of co-operation programs which include:
- projects for the benefit of
SMEs, in full partnership with
UNCTAD and the International
Trade Centre (UNCTAD/WTO) of
Geneva, with which it has maintained
links for the past two decades.
The Chamber's relationship with the European Union, through
the associate membership provided by the new Cotonou (and
former Lomé) Convention, is also a long-standing
and fruitful one. For the past quarter of a century, the
MCCI has been the local antenna of the Brussels-based Centre
for the Development of Enterprise (CDE), a joint ACP/EU
body providing grants for technical assistance. The MCCI
has recently initiated a close form of relationship with
the Private Sector Unit of the European Commission and is
bringing its full contribution to the implementation of
various support measures in favour of private sector development
in ACP countries.
3. Forum Francophone des Affaires
The Chamber provides the Secretariat for National Committee's
of the FFA.
The F.F.A is an international non-governmental
organisation grouping national business communities. Its
objectives are the development of transactions in the field
of business, industries and technology within the francophone
economic environment.
4. Other Services
Furthermore, the Chamber runs services on
a current basis as follows:
¨ identifying and selecting international trade fairs
and supporting participation
¨ undertaking export promotion missions and activities
in various countries
¨ identifying potential business partners and encouraging
business contacts
¨ assisting in the carrying out of investment projects
and the setting-up of joint ventures
5. Entrepreneurship
The MYET is a joint initiative of the Confederation
of Indian Industry and the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce
and Industry. Its objective is to promote entrepreneurship
among the youth in Mauritius.
It achieves this by supporting young
people with viable business ideas through loans on soft
terms and mentoring.
