Within the context of its primary objective in encouraging trade and its function in attending to business, the MCCI provides a number of in-house services such as :

EAN.UCC bar-coding system

The MCCI is a member organisation of GS1, the international numbering organisation which is responsible for the allocation and implementation of GS1 bar codes all over the world.   Through its membership of GS1, which represents around 140 countries, the MCCI is the sole organisation in Mauritius which is empowered to allocate the GS1 barcodes and to coordinate the implementation of the GS1barcoding system at national level.

This initiative bears testimony of MCCI's eagerness to constantly seek new areas of partnership of enhancing the country's development process.

Airport Duty and VAT Refund Counter

The Chamber has been appointed by the government to rationalise and monitor in close conjunction with Customs, duty free and Vat free activities in Mauritius. To that effect it runs a Duty and Vat Refund Counter at Plaisance Airport. Tourists may purchase duty free or Vat free articles in down town or hotels duly approved shops and be refunded the tax and/or duty incurred at the Chamber's Airport Counter while leaving Mauritius.

Besides, tourists and also Mauritian travellers may purchase in these shops duty or Vat free goods and take delivery of their articles at the Chamber's Airport Counter.


Trade and Customs Documentation

The MCCI is responsible for the printing and issuing of a number of trade and customs documents:

  • Issue of Certificates of origin
    As most Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the MCCI issues certificates of origin for non-preferential trade.
  • ATA Carnets
    The ATA Carnet system is administered in Mauritius by the MCCI. The ATA Carnet is an international custom document that allows temporary importation of goods into foreign countries. With the ATA Carnet, businessmen are allowed to import on a temporary basis their professional equipment, samples and goods to be exhibited in trade fairs exempt of duties and taxes.
  • Printing of Customs Documents and Certificates of origin
    The MCCI has been entrusted to print several customs and trade documents:
    • Single Goods Declaration (SGD) Form used for the clearing of goods.
    • Trade documents such as inward/outward manifests and forms for the exemption/refund of customs duties
    • Certificates of origin used in preferential trade namely the EUR1, SADC, GSP and IOC.
