Welcome to GS1 Mauritius

GS1 Mauritius operates as an arm of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 1994.
GS1 Mauritius is a Member Organisation of GS1, a not-for-profit organisation based in Brussels that develops global standards for the identification of goods and services.
GS1 Mauritius
Its mission is to lead the design and implementation of global standards in view of improving the supply and demand chain.
Formerly known as EAN Mauritius, the goal of GS1 Mauritius is clearly aimed at the simplification of global commerce by connecting the flow of information with the flow of goods.
As Member Organisation, our responsibility is to allocate GS1 Identification numbers for example GS1 Bar Codes to trade operators in Mauritius.
GS1 Mauritius currently has around 850 member companies, the majority of which belong to the retailing sector, mainly for food products and other consumer goods.
GS1 Standards
GS1: Global Standard One
The use of GS1 BarCode is based on a system of global standards - GS1 standards. GS1 standards are the standards for the identification of products most often used in the world.
The objective of these global standards:“Foster cooperation and encourage information-sharing among the world’s business community”.
With GS1, businesses and organisations can improve the efficiency of their supply and demand chains by adding useful information to any exchange of goods or services.

GS1 system: A Global Solution
GS1 BarCode are used by more than 1 million businesses. The same code is recognized and accepted in over 140 countries.
The main advantage of using the GS1 system of item identification is that it provides a global solution. Many sectors of trade and industry today optimize the GS1 System as the only identification and communication system that provides generally applicable, multi-sectorial, fully international standards.
A business that chooses a non-global standard will face the potentially high costs of maintaining two systems if it wants to sell its goods or services or simply communicate outside its “closed world”.
