Mauritius
Young Entrepreneurs Trust Project
MYET provides assistance to overcome constraints
and limitations faced by young people who want
to create their own enterprise. The target groups
consist of: the unemployed, semi-skilled workers
and young graduates. The main objectives of the
project are to act as a tool for economic change
and empowerment, promote entrepreneurship among
the economically disadvantaged, and train potential
and existing entrepreneurs in running their enterprises
with the assistance of mentors. The mentors are
business advisers working on voluntary basis.
They give practical advice to organise activities
and manage the starting business. They also teach
the young entrepreneurs how to manage cash flows
and keep accounts. Training can also be provided
by the Trust, if necessary, either in Mauritius
or in India. The training sought should be directly
linked with the approved project. Once the project
has been approved, the beneficiary shall be invited
to enter into an Agreement with the Trust. This
Document shall formalize the rights and duties
of both MYET and the entrepreneur.
In order to be eligible to receive assistance one needs to be between the ages of 18 and 35, have a viable business idea and a vision to develop, create and a will to succeed. Activities financed include promoting entrepreneurship excluding self-employment and simple trading. There are 11 Mauritian companies involved in the sponsorship.
