Information and Communication Technology
The ICT industry, including its contribution for the rest of the economy, performed well and has sustained its double digit growth pattern in 2010. The real growth is expected to reach 13.6 percent in 2010 after a remarkable 13.1 percent during the Great Crisis. In current rupees the value added for this segment reached Rs 16.9 billion, representing 6.4 percent of total GDP. For 2009, the figures were respectively Rs 14.9 billion and 5.9 percent.
According to the latest estimates there were 138 large companies in the ICT industry employing a total of 12,826 people, 4.2 percent of total employment. The employment figure has increased by more than 60 percent during the last five years, showing the vitality of this sector.
