Ban on Single Use Plastic Products

Ban on Single Use Plastic Products

20 Apr 2021

Following the Environment Protection (Control of Single-Use Plastic Products) Regulations 2020 and the Communiqué issued on 8 January 2021 by the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste and Climate Change, the ban on plastic trays (except for MAP packaging), plastic straws and plastic hinged containers is effective as from the 15th of April 2021.

Given the prevailing sanitary situation resulting in delays in shipment, the Ministry has informed the MCCI that they will exceptionally allow for goods already at MRA Customs or shipped prior to 15 April 2021 to be cleared from MRA Customs subject to an undertaking from importers to the effect that they would remove the plastic packaging from the imported goods prior to sale and that they would make the necessary arrangements for the disposal of the plastic packaging with recycling companies.
