MCCI and UK private sector organisations to set up a Joint Business Council

The launching of the setting up of a Joint Business Council between the MCCI and its counterparts in the UK has been announced yesterday Tuesday 2 October 2023 at a meeting held at the MCCI.


The event took place in the presence of the President of the MCCI, Mrs Namita Jagarnath Hardowar, Vice-President, Mr Charles Harel, Secretary-General of the MCCI, Dr Drishtysingh Ramdenee, the British High Commissioner, HE Charlotte Pierre and UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy, Mr. Andrew Selous.


The UK-Mauritius JBC will be set up under the aegis of the UK-Mauritius Strategic Trade Partnership (STP) signed in April 2023 by the governments of both countries with the objective of strengthening the trade and investment relations between UK and Mauritius.

 

The STP is expected to provide a coherent framework that will enhance common policy work and stronger coordination between the two countries.


The objectives of the JBC will be to provide a forum for regular business exchanges and promotional activities in the priority sectors identified in the STP namely Pharmaceuticals, Green Economy / Waste Management, Agri-Tech, Education, ICT and Financial and Professional Services.


During the meeting, members of the business community were apprised of the objectives of the STP. Discussions focused on the priority sectors and on the way forward.


The Mauritian businesspeople who attended the launch comprised Mr. Tim Taylor of Scott and Co, Mr Jocelyn Kwok of AHRIM and representatives of the following sectors namely ICT, Textile, Pharmaceuticals, Energy, Finance and Seafoods.
