Signing of MoU between MCCI and the AfBC

A Memorandum of Understanding between the MCCI and the Africa Business Council Regional Office for Southern Africa in Mauritius was signed today between Mr. Guillaume Hugnin, President of the MCCI and Mr. Marday Venkatasamy, President of the COMESA Business Council and Vice President of the Africa Business Council.

The Africa Business Council is the platform for cooperation among Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce in Africa, with a view to advocating business interests through dialogues with the African Union.

The agreement provides that the MCCI will house the secretariat of the ABC Regional office for Southern Africa in Mauritius.

In his speech, Mr Guillaume Hugnin stated that the cooperation of business communities from different regions through one platform which is the Africa Business Council can only bring more trade and investment. He also said that the presence of this Regional office in Mauritius gives a new dimension in the regional and continental mission of the MCCI.

Mr. Marday Venkatasamy, Vice-President of the Africa Business Council, said that the African Business Council is the voice of the private sector in Africa and for Africa, in line with the African Union’s commitment to boost Intra African trade and Fast Track the Establishment of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area. He added that “It shall be also a unique platform to further the implementation of the Agenda 2063 for the Africa that we all want”.

Hon Minister Ganoo expressed his satisfaction regarding the launching of the Africa Business Council Regional Office for Southern Africa in Mauritius. He also said that the setting up of a private sector organization in Africa, which is the premier advocacy arm of the private sector, is an important step to further boost trade within the continent.
