Draft Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations

05 Oct 2020

Dear Member,

The Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change will be introducing a new Environment Protection (Extended Producer Responsibility for Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations.

The aim of these regulations is to provide for the legal conditions for the implementation of a collective Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for electrical and electronic equipment.  The obligations of stakeholders, including producers, distributors, recyclers and exporters, have been defined.

The Ministry has circulated:

·       A presentation with the main features of the new legislation, and

·       The draft EPR Regulations

Members are invited to submit their comments on the proposed legislation to Miss Heba Peerun (hpeerun@mcci.org) by Friday 9 October 2020 at 10h00.

A meeting will be held at the MCCI soon to discuss comments received from Members and finalise the MCCI’s submission to the Ministry.
