On Monday 27 July 2026, the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), in collaboration with the Outsourcing and Telecommunications Association of Mauritius (OTAM) and CAPFOR Mauritius, officially launched the Survey on AI Adoption, Readiness and Governance among Mauritian Companies at the MCCI Head Office in Port Louis.

The event was held in the presence of Dr the Hon. Avinash Ramtohul, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, and brought together representatives from the public and private sectors, industry associations and international chambers of commerce.

The programme opened with a welcome address by Mr. Patrice Marie, President of the MCCI, who positioned the initiative within the context of Mauritius' National AI Strategy and the recent Budget measures. Stressing that AI adoption varies significantly across industries, he underscored the importance of identifying the specific needs of businesses before developing targeted training programmes and support mechanisms.

This was followed by opening remarks from Ms. Jenny Chan, President of OTAM, who noted that artificial intelligence has evolved from a topic of discussion into a strategic imperative for national competitiveness.

In his keynote address, Dr the Hon. Ramtohul commended the MCCI and its partners for spearheading the initiative and encouraged businesses to actively participate in the survey. He emphasised that the question is no longer whether companies should adopt AI, but how they should do so responsibly, noting that different AI applications present distinct challenges, particularly regarding data sensitivity and the protection of information when using technologies developed outside Mauritius.

Mr. Frédéric Romann, Managing Director of CAPFOR Mauritius, subsequently presented the survey's objectives, methodology and expected outcomes.

The survey aims to establish a practical baseline on the adoption of artificial intelligence across Mauritian companies by assessing current levels of AI adoption, organisational readiness, governance practices and business support requirements. The findings will help inform future initiatives and policy discussions to foster the responsible adoption of AI and strengthen the competitiveness of Mauritian enterprises.
