MCCI President Participates in TICAD 9 and Tokyo Business Meeting

Cooperation 22 Aug 2025

MCCI President Mr. Charles Harel accompanied the Prime Minister's delegation to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) held in Yokohama from 20 to 22 August 2025, followed by a business meeting in Tokyo to strengthen Mauritius-Japan economic ties.

The Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held every three years since 1993, brings together African leaders, development partners, and the private sector to discuss Africa's development priorities and chart the course for sustainable growth across the continent.

TICAD 9 provided a platform for Mauritius to reinforce its position as a gateway to African markets and showcase its role in facilitating Japan-Africa economic cooperation.

The conference focused on key themes including sustainable development, economic transformation, peace and stability, and quality growth in Africa.

Following the TICAD 9 sessions, Mr. Harel participated in a business meeting in Tokyo where discussions centred on strengthening bilateral economic ties between Mauritius and Japan. The meeting explored new avenues for Japanese investment in Mauritius and opportunities for Japanese companies to use Mauritius as a gateway for expansion into African markets.
