Generalised System of Preferences (GSP)

Under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) scheme, a number of developed countries offer preferential market access on a wide range of products to selected developing and least-developed countries.

Mauritius is a beneficiary of the GSP Schemes offered by the following countries:  

  • Japan
  • Norway
  • Switzerland
  • United States of America
  • Customs Union between Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia
     

Exporting to Countries under the GSP Scheme

Trade Preferences: It should be noted that the product coverage, the level of tariff reduction and the Rules of Origin vary depending on each GSP Scheme.

Rules of Origin: The exporter must ensure that his products satisfy the GSP Rules of Origin, which vary depending on the GSP Scheme.

Obtaining a Certificate of Origin: The GSP Certificate of Origin is sold by the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry and approved by:

The documents required for approval are as follows:

1. Duly filled GSP Certificate of Origin
2. Customs Declaration (Import and Export)
3. Export Invoice
4. Appropriate Certified Costing for value added requirements
5. Export Permit (if applicable)
6. Any other documents that may be required
