On Tuesday 3 February 2026, the U.S administration has reauthorised the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) through Thursday 31 December 2026, with retroactive effect from Tuesday 30 September 2025.
First enacted in 2000, AGOA grants qualifying sub-Saharan African countries duty-free access to the United States market for over 1,800 products.
AGOA has been a cornerstone of Mauritius’ textile and apparel exports to the U.S, contributing materially to the development and competitiveness of the sector. The reauthorisation of the programme provides much-needed relief to exporters and restores duty free market access for Mauritian exporters.
