Amendments to Consumer Protection Act

1. Amendment to the imports of Second-Hand Vehicles

 

The Ninth Schedule to the Consumer Protection (Control of Imports) Regulations 2017 has been amended by Government Notice No.81 of 2018 by adding the following authority with regards to Japan.

 

Mauri Auto Inspection Organisation, 2-13-7-703 Hokima, Adachi-Ku, Tokyo, Japan

 

The regulations are in force since 9 May 2018.

2. New item introduced in the Maximum Mark-up list

 

The First Schedule to the Consumer Protection (Maximum Mark-up) Regulations 1998 has been amended by the Government Notice No.83 of 2018 by introducing ‘Blood Glucose Strips’ in the list with a Maximum Mark-up of 35% and a special allowance of 5%.

 

The regulations are in force since 28 June 2018.

3. Amendment to the imports of goods for personal use

 

The Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations 2017 have been amended by the Government Notice No.84 of 2018, stating that an individual who imports goods for his personal use and not importing more than 2 goods at a time up to an aggregate of 10, shall not be required to submit a certificate of conformity provided that he or she shall give an undertaking in such form as the Permanent Secretary may determine, that he will take full responsibility for the goods and their use.

 

The regulations are in force since 29 June 2018.

4. Amendment to the imports of toys for personal use

 

The Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations 1994 have been amended by Government Notice No.85 of 2018, stating that an individual importing a toy for his personal use, shall not be required to submit a certificate of conformity provided that he or she shall give an undertaking in such form as the Permanent Secretary may determine, that he will take full responsibility for the toy and its use.

 

The regulations are in force since 29 June 2018.
