MARC-AfricArb Event on Investment Arbitration in Africa

MARC 29 Oct 2018

MARC organized an event in collaboration with AfricArb on 26 October 2018 on the theme “Investment Arbitration in Africa: Current Developments and Challenges”.

The event started with presentations by Mr. Wesley Pydiamah, Partner, at Eversheds Sutherland, Paris Office and by Dr. Guillaume Areou, Senior Associate at Reed Smith, Paris Office. Both Mr. Pydiamah and Dr. Areou are also the co-founders of AfricArb, a group of young legal professionals with a shared interest in arbitration and Africa. The speakers addressed topics such as the new generation of bilateral investment treaties being negotiated by African countries, the revision of the ICSID rules and expected areas of improvements, and the place of Mauritius in Africa for investment-related arbitrations.

The presentations were followed by a MARC45 ‘Arbitration Spotlight’, a Q&A session conducted by two members of the MARC45 Committee, Mr. Shrivan Daby, barrister at ENS Africa, and Ms. Beatrice Koon, barrister at Etude Guy Rivalland, with Mr. Wesley Pydiamah as guest speaker.
