MCCI forecasts a GDP growth of 4.4% for 2018

The MCCI released its annual economic forecasts, the ‘MCCI Perspectives Economiques/MCCI Economic Outlook’ in a press conference held on Thursday 30th November 2017, in the presence of the President Mr. Azim Currimjee.

According to the MCCI’s econometric modeling, economic growth, as measured by an increase in the GDP, is expected to be of 4 percent in 2017 and 4.4 percent in 2018. The Potential Growth of the economy is at 4.1%, indicating an expected inflation rate of 3.8 percent in 2018, as compared to 3.5 percent in 2017.


On employment, the MCCI expects further decreases in the unemployment rate to reach 7 percent in 2017 and 6.8 percent in 2018.


On the main macro-economic indicators, our econometric model shows higher growths in the three main components, be it consumption, investment or exports.
