Regulations under the Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) Act - Foreign Spouse

Further to the Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) Amendments No. 1 and Amendment No. 2 Regulations 2019, non-citizens being the spouse of a citizen of Mauritius are no longer exempted from the regulations and thus need to apply for Work and Occupation Permits.

 

Existing employees, who are spouses of citizens of Mauritius are exempted from the provisions of the Act, for a moratorium period of 3 months after the coming into operation of the regulations.

 

An Employer of a non-citizen, who is a spouse of a citizen of Mauritius who intends to continue to have non-citizens in his employment shall, within a period of 3 months, as from the 28th of March 2019, apply and obtain a permit in respect of the non-citizen under the Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) (Work Permit) Regulations 2017.
