New Regulations on Imports of Household Electrical Appliances

Trade 20 Nov 2014

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer protection is proposing to introduce new regulations to control the standards on imported electrical appliances and on imported plastic pipes and fittings for local sales.  The draft Regulations can be accessed on the MCCI website on:
The Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations 2014;
The Plastic Products for Water Supply, Drainage and Sewerage (Mauritian Standard Specifications) Regulations 2014

It is to be noted that importers will be given a moratorium in order to be in conformity with the law.

Accordingly, Members are strongly advised to consult the draft regulations pertaining to their sector of activities and to contact Mr. Vagen Amoomoogum at the MCCI (Tel: 2083301, vivagen@mcci.org) to submit their comments on the practical difficulties they might encounter with the implementation of the above regulations.

The deadline for the submission of comments is Friday 28 November 2014, at latest.
