Tanzania applies to maintain tariff on imports of paper and paper board under the SADC Trade Protocol

Trade 11 Apr 2017

Tanzania has applied to SADC to maintain a 25% customs duty on its imports of paper and paper board from other SADC Member States till 2019.

According to the country, “the grace period would provide essential intervention that will reduce investment risk to the Tanzanian Paper Mill, allow it to proceed with its capital intensive investment plans to reach the required economy of scale and reduce its cost of production and be competitive to ‘zero’ rated imports from SADC”.

Customs duties will therefore be maintained on the following HS Codes: 4804.11.00, 4804.21.00, 4804.31.00, 4804.41.00, 4804.51.00, 4805.11.00, 4805.12.00, 4805.19.00, 4805.24.00, & 4805.25.00.

Members exporting to Tanzania and feeling aggrieved by the above application are requested to submit their comments to the MCCI by Monday 17th April 2017, at latest, contact Mr. Vivagen Amoomoogum, Tel: 203-4830, Email: mcci@mcci.org
